George Reeves - Actor
George Keefer Brewer was born in Woolstock, Iowa on January 5, 1914. Probably best known for his acting career in the hit Superman TV series during the 1950's George was a well accomplished film and play actor as well. He starred in numerous leading and supporting roles in a variety of famous films dating back to 1939 including the blockbuster "Gone with the Wind" where he portrayed one of Scarlet's suitors. George Reeves was 45 years old in 1959 when he was found dead in his home from a single gun shot. Many people speculate that he was murdered but his death was ruled a suicide predicated on the fact that he was in a deep depression state due to his inability to find acting work because he was typecast as superman. I personally do not believe that he took his own life, this man was strong willed, full of life and had everything to live for.
The circumstances of his mysterious death and the investigation that followed left many unanswered questions and speculation. Filmology Westward Ho the Wagons! (1956)

There were 104 episodes filmed for television. One additional episode was filmed in 1953 as a public service for United States Savings Bonds. INTRODUCTION... "Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound. Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Superman! Yes, it's Superman - strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Superman, who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way."

REEVES, GEORGE ROBERTSON (1826-1882). George Robertson Reeves, legislator and soldier, was born on January 3, 1826, in Hickman County, Tennessee, the fifth child of William Steel and Nancy (Totty) Reeves. The family moved to Crawford County, Arkansas, where, on October 31, 1844, Reeves married Jane Moore; the couple eventually had twelve children. In 1846 he moved to Grayson County, Texas; he subsequently held several county offices there. The community that developed around Fort Johnston in Grayson County was called Georgetown in Reeves's honor. He represented the county in the Texas legislature from 1856 to 1858. He raised a company for William C. Young's qv Eleventh Cavalry and later became colonel in command. The unit fought in Indian Territory and at Pea Ridge under Benjamin McCulloch, qv and at Corinth, Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, Chickamauga, Knoxville, and Tunnel Hill as part of Ross's Texas Brigade. qv Confederate Camp Reeves, in Grayson County, was named for Reeves. Reeves again served the legislature in 1870, 1875, 1879, and 1881-82. In his last term he was speaker of the House. Reeves County, Texas, is named for him. The George R. Hello! What a great site. I was and am a tremendous fan of the Superman series. I was living in Taft, CA at the time of George Reeves' death. As I remember it, George as Superman called me on my birthday, Feb 5th to wish me a happy birthday. I suspect that it was some sort of promotional thing. As I remember it, my parents somehow aranged it. Anyway, thanks so much for the great resource. It brings back many fond memories.
Bill Chilla - Friday, March 14, 2003 at 18:53:05 (PST) George/Superman took me away from my many problems while growing up. The show gave me a haven to retreat to when things were bad. Thank you. dward59@hotmail.com - Thursday, March 06, 2003 at 08:39:50 (PST) Thanks for a great website (with lots of "super" links)! It's a wonderfully fitting tribute to a man who appears to have been loved not only by everyone who personally knew him, but also by millions of children in the 1950s (including me) to whom he brought adventure, a sense of right always triumphing over wrong, and (at least onscreen and in public) a strong role model to aspire to. Your effort has been greatly enjoyed and appreciated! WendellHill@WendellHill.com

The out gene cluster of Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora (Ecc) encodes the proteins of the type II or general secretory pathway (GSP) apparatus which is required for secretion of pectinase and cellulase. In this study, fusions between Ecc out genes and the topology probe blaM were constructed. The ability of Out protein domains to export BlaM across the cytoplasmic membrane in both Escherichia coli and the cognate host was utilized to confirm the computer-predicted cytoplasmic membrane topology of OutC and OutF. When outC was fused to blaM , the resulting phenotype suggested that the majority of OutC is targeted to the periplasm, typical of a type II bitopic conformation in the cytoplasmic membrane. W elcome to my George Reeves website. Watching George in The Adventures of Superman as a young girl is when I became interested in finding out more about him personally as well as his film career. There was something about his portrayal of Superman that captured my heart, and my interest in him hasn't stopped. I'm thankful to the editor of the fanzine The Adventures Continue , Jim Nolt, for many years of friendship and his shared interest in George. Also to Gary Grossman who wrote the first book on George and the Superman series back in 1976. I can't tell you how happy that book made me. It's title is Superman, Serial to Cereal. T o Jan Henderson, author of Speeding Bullet , and all the writers who have written, or will be writing books about George, thank you for keeping his memory alive. He is gone, but will never be forgotten. I hope you enjoy your visit and come away knowing a little more about George Reeves that you didn't know before.

January 5th, 1914 - June 16th, 1959
I often get emails asking if George was related to actors Steve Reeves and even Christopher Reeve. For the record, "Reeves" was not George's real last name. It was his professional name. When his mother, Helen Lescher, discovered she was pregnant with George in 1913, the father, Don Brewer, and Helen were married. George was born January 5th, 1914 and George was christened George Keefer Brewer. The marriage did not last and it was later that Helen met and married Frank Joseph Bessolo. In 1927, Frank adopted George and gave him his last name. Unfortunately, this marriage also did not last
In 1932, after graduating from high school, George enrolled at Pasadena Junior College, where he turned his attention toward music and acting, joining the acappella choir, playing guitar, and performing in school plays. In 1935, at the age of 21, he joined one of America’s most prestigious theaters, the Pasadena Community Playhouse. Over the next four years, he appeared in dozens of playhouse productions. The playhouse is where George met Ellanora Needles. They dated for two years and married on September 22nd, 1940. After nine years, they divorced. They had no children. In 1943 George put his career on hold to enlist in the army, joining the Special Theatrical Unit of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He appeared in several training films, including a movie on the dangers of venereal disease. While stationed in New York, a theater director cast George in a small role in the play
